chapter 2
The Screaming-Mitchel
Aaron sat in front of the television eating a bucket of fried chicken. I ducked behind the couch and crept behind him. Unfortunately being an extremely muscular and large werewolf means that I’m not quiet when I walk. Aaron jumped up and leapfrogged over the table.
He landed on the cabin floor with a heavy thud. The floor cracked and Aaron’s foot went straight through the foundation. Aaron yanked his foot effortlessly from the ground.
“Aaron!” Neal jumped out at him and pulled him to the floor
“Settle down there is way more chicken where that came from” Derrek pushed two more containers down the counter.
Being half wolf had advantages, like strength and flexibility but we also had problems with huge appetites and being really heavy. Aaron has broken the floor about twelve times this month.
Derrek was the pack’s leader. He controlled his temper better than the rest of us. He was slightly older than the rest of us, stronger too. Derrek was also the smallest of us.
We lived out in the woods in a small cabin. Derrek wasn’t freakishly muscular so he was able to go into town without too many people staring. If Neal, Aaron, or I went into Bar Harbor the townspeople would have an intervention.
We crammed into the small living room in front of the television. This was our daily routine. Neal grabbed the remote and began to channel surf. I turned to look out towards the window.
Some of the stupid kids had a bonfire out by the cliff. I could see the orange glow through the trees. That’s another thing, werewolves can see things that are really far away.
I finished eating so I took the trash out to Derrek’s car. He would have to go to the dump tomorrow. As I opened the door to return inside I heard a girl screaming. I thought it was the TV. Aaron, Neal, and Derrek started laughing.
The TV. flashed showing Charlie Sheen and John Cryer yelling at each other. There wasn’t a girl screaming. Then I heard it again. Derrek and Aaron jumped. They heard it too. Neal leaped over the couch and ran through the door. He started to transform almost immediately.
We followed Neal. I hadn’t changed in so long. I forgot how good it felt to change. The way I felt so free and alive. As a wolf my instincts were ten times stronger. Everything was so vibrant and beautiful through the eyes of a wolf.
I remember when I first had changed twelve years ago. I was scared and the transformation had freaked me out. I had ran into the forest and hid from all my friends. Then I found Derrek and my life changed. Being a wolf felt so free to me now. It was who I am.
We found Neal hiding behind the bushes. He was watching the girl. She kept screaming louder and louder. Then I saw why she was screaming. A vampire threw a lifeless body to the side and began to lean in towards her neck. I couldn’t help but let out a growl.
Derrek leaped out and grabbed the vampire but he was too late. The girl collapsed. She began to shake violently. Her eyes rolled in the back of her head. She screamed and then she was still.
I ran over to her. She wasn’t dead but she didn’t look alive. I transformed back into a human. I looked over at the rest of my pack. They were burning the vampire in the bonfire. I didn’t know what they would do with the vampires other victim.
I picked her up. Even though I generate lots of heat I could feel her skin. It was cold. I carried her back to the cabin. I walked slowly and carefully.
She was so delicate and tiny. She was like a porcelain doll. I was afraid that if I dropped her that she would break and shatter into a million pieces.
I set her on my bed and boiled some water on the stove. I dipped a cloth into the hot water. I placed the cloth on her forehead hoping she would heat up.
The rest of the guys walked inside. Derrek looked upset. ”Where is it?”
“What Derrek”
“I burned the vampire and the other guy. Where’s the girl?”
“What do you mean?”
“That girl could become a vampire, Mitchel. Don’t be stupid. I can’t risk it. Where is she?”
“She’s in my room. On my bed”
“In the HOUSE? She could kill us while we’re sleeping! Did you think of that?”
“She won’t.” I don’t know how I was so sure of myself. I didn’t want to believe that this girls life would be over because we didn’t rescue her two seconds sooner.
“How are you sure?”
“I’ll watch her okay.”
“When’ll you sleep”?
“I….”
“Leave me out of this”, said Derrek. He slammed the door of his room and started playing music. Neal and Aaron walked into the kitchen.
I turned and looked over at the girl. Her face was so innocent. Her skin looked paler, it must’ve been the lighting.

Very interesting, are you continuing on further explaining this story at all?
Your descriptors, and imagery you paint is well sound.
